NZ-Born, NY-Raised, Indian Heritage
I was born in New Zealand to two scientists who pushed me to understand how the world around me works. It was not enough to understand that something exists - I was encouraged to ask "how and why?" - something that really benefits my work today.
I've lived in NY since I was 5, did all my education here in NY (elementary through NYU), and continue to live in NYC today with my wife.
Professionally, I am a startup specialist who has seen what it takes to go from less than 5 people to 30, 100 to 500, and 500 to 1,000. I've helped make payroll when there was almost no revenue, and advised on marketing budgets of over $50M. At some point, it just feels like adding and subtracting zeroes, and the lessons from each stage can be used holistically. My start at InterviewJet back in 2014 taught me so many foundational business skills that I've applied to every company I've worked at since. My time as an AE/expansion lead at AngelList not only got me over my fear of the phone (quickly) - it helped round out my skills as a business leader, really seeing what it takes to grow a business beyond the numbers. Raising a Series C and D at Slice, during a pandemic no less, and leading expense planning for 1,000 people across 3 countries gave me a crash course in finance at scale. Finally, today, having the chance to build finance from scratch under the CFO at Alma - building through a Series D and an exit to Spring Health* helped round out my finance skills, getting to see the journey start to finish (really, a new beginning).
Personally, I consider myself a New Yorker above anything else, and find what NYC has to offer to be invaluable. You can eat something new everyday and never run out of options, meet people from all walks of life, see the best sports (as a Yankees fan, waiting for this one a bit at this point...), hear amazing live music, and so much more.
I have run every NYC Marathon since 2018, 8 marathons in total, and am pushing for 15 NYCs in a row. Eventually, I want to go sub-3 at every major. Which is insane because I'm still in the high 4s right now. I also still haven't given up hope for 1 ATP point in tennis. As I approach my 30th birthday, I'll have to push myself harder and harder to achieve these things but a small dose of delusion can be a powerful thing.
